Elder Clark G. Gilbert called to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

Elder Clark G. Gilbert was called as the new member of the Quorum of the Twelve for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was called on Wednesday, Feb. 11, and ordained on Thursday, Feb. 12.

Elder Gilbert is 55 years old and was born in Oakland, Calif., but spent most of his childhood in Phoenix, Ariz.

The new apostle had previously served as a General Authority Seventy beginning in April 2021. He also has served as the commissioner of the Church Educational System since August 2021.

His role as commissioner of the Church Educational System was to oversee BYU, BYU–Idaho, BYU–Hawaii, Ensign College, BYU–Pathway Worldwide and seminaries and institutes of religion.

Elder Gilbert was the first president of BYU–Pathway Worldwide, which began in 2009.

He and his wife, Christine, have been married for 32 years and are the parents of eight children.

Throughout his educational leadership, Elder Gilbert has taught the importance of helping each learner grow in Christ and that where we are heading is more important than where we started.
