BYU, Utah Valley Hospital team up for annual mammogram screenings

BYU Employee Wellness and Utah Valley Hospital partner each March to offer mammogram screenings.

This provides BYU employees and their families with easy access to early breast cancer detection.

Medical professionals recommend mammograms for women starting at age 40, especially for those with a family history of breast cancer.

This cause is personal for Morgan Anderson, the BYU Employee Wellness Program manager.

"One of my great aunts passed away from breast cancer, and that’s a devastating loss, especially if it’s something that could be prevented by getting an early screening," she said.

At Utah Valley Hospital, mammographer Sandy Jensen helps patients through the process.

“There are breast cancers out there that you will never feel yourself," she said.

Jensen said the process takes less than 15 minutes but could make a life-saving difference.

"If you come in every single year, we’re able to keep track of those natural changes versus those changes that might be a little bit scary," Jensen said.

While March offers dedicated mammogram screenings, Utah Valley Hospital provides these services year-round.
