A new gallery has joined Provo’s art scene alongside venues like the Compass Gallery and the JKR Gallery.
In the space formerly occupied by gallery and bookstore Writ and Vision, downtown Provo welcomed three new art exhibits in Alma Gallery, owned by Tyler Alexander.
Tyler Alexander, previously worked at Writ and Vision and said he saw an opportunity when the gallery moved to a new space last year.
“I live close by and I’d walk by it all the time and I just felt like Provo could use another art gallery,” Alexander said.
Alexander said he reached out to the owner of the then-vacated space and took the necessary steps to make it happen. He opened Alma Gallery last November.
“Both artists and patrons of the art have expressed the need for another space for art to exist in Provo,” Alexander said.
The gallery features a new artist each month and plans out each show a year in advance.
One artist currently featured in the gallery is Kirsten Noelle Anderson. Her show centers around two main characters: a white horse and a veiled woman.
“The thought is that these two characters take the viewer in and carry you throughout these spaces and you encounter different forms and landscapes as you go,” Anderson said.
