3hive Record Longue started as a music blog in 2004.
Today, it is an actual record store that just moved to its new location on 71 East Center Street in Downtown Provo after spending six years south of the Provo City Library.
“They say record stores are kind of like cockroaches," Sarah Bledsoe, marketing manager for 3Hive Record Longue said. "They can never be killed and that’s how it feels for us everyday — new people come in here just super excited about records."
Rex Blair, the store manager for 3Hive Record Lounge says the store specializes in hand-picked vinyl. Everything that they choose either goes through either his hands, Bledsoe’s hands or other employees.
Some of the stores most popular albums include records by Mack DeMarco, Phoebe Bridgers, Taylor Swift and the Minecraft soundtrack.
“We also carry a lot of stuff from smaller indie labels, stuff that you wouldn’t find at bigger chain stores," Bledsoe said. "So if you’re into indie stuff, then we’re your spot.”
According to the Recording Industry Association of America, vinyl records accounted for eight percent of recorded music revenues in the United States in 2024.
Even though it pales in comparison to paid subscription services, which makes up 60% of recorded music revenue, it still beat CD, download album and download song sales.
Blair spoke on how the vinyl revival has brought people to the lounge.
“There are people that come in and they're like, 'dude I don’t even own a record player, but I have to have the new release by Car Seat Headrest.' So they’ll come in, they’ll buy a record. It’s something you can hold. It’s tangible and if you buy a record player, then you can spin it and listen to it," Blair said.
Bledsoe said there's been a few stores that have closed down and so 3Hive is trying to keep record stores alive in Provo, even if it is just them.
