Students looking for internship and employment opportunities found new possibilities at BYU’s winter semester Career Fair on Feb. 6.
Students attending the fair visited stands and spoke with employers in the Ballroom of the Wilkinson Student Center. The fair lasted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Ella Mckenna, a BYU student studying sociology, said that it was her first time at the Career Fair, and that this opportunity relieved some of her stress about the future.
“I’m definitely trying to think, like, what jobs can I do with my major, which jobs are out there,” Mckenna said. “It’s nice to know that once I’m done with college I have a path to go on.”
Emerson Law, an economics and math student, agrees that planning for and working towards future employment is important.
“If you don’t plan for it, it’s not going to happen,” Law said.
The Career Fair offered opportunities in many areas. According to BYU’s Career Fair page
Lis Green, director of the Sorenson Impact Institute at the University of Utah, said that the company has recruited from BYU for years.
“It’s a place where we can get good interns, good candidates, so we keep coming back,” Green said.
Hundreds of students roamed through the crowded aisles, referring to maps and pamphlets as they searched for the ideal opportunity.
Anna Hall, who works with Utah Lake Authority and spoke with students visiting the stand, had a simple answer when asked what the organization looks for in an ideal candidate.
“People who want to learn and work hard,” Hall said.
