Suspicious
BYU Police received a report of three people going in and out of campus buildings late at night. An officer located the group and learned one of them wanted to look at classrooms before attending BYU in the winter semester.
Officers responded to Helaman Halls after a resident reported someone was knocking on their door after hours. The resident did not answer the door. Officers found no suspicious activity.
Medical
BYU Police received a report of someone in the South Campus Office Building experiencing symptoms consistent with a stroke. BYU EMS evaluated and cared for the individual.
A student passed out during their class in the Conference Center. The student told officers and EMS they did not need medical assistance.
An employee of the BYU Creamery fainted at the register. EMS transported the employee to the hospital.
A man struck his finger with a cymbal at the Cannon Center. Officers responded to the scene, but medical personnel determined no further medical care was needed.
A woman sprained her ankle while hiking the Y. Provo EMS drove her to the trailhead and released her to family members.
Accidents
Officers received a report of a reckless driver who sped through a roundabout and ran a red light near East Campus Drive. The officers contacted the driver and gave him a warning for unsafe driving behavior.
A driver was turning between two support pillars at LaVell Edwards Stadium and accidentally struck one. The car sustained minor damage to the fender, but the pillar was undamaged.
A bicyclist hit a student at a crosswalk. The bicyclist left before an officer arrived. The student sustained minor injuries, and their laptop was damaged.
Traffic Stops
Officers checked a car’s registration information after finding it idling in a service parking lot. The officers found the owner had never obtained a driver’s license. A man entered the vehicle and drove away. The officers stopped the car, cited the driver and impounded the vehicle.
BYU Police and EMS received a report of an unconscious man. EMS evaluated the man and officers conducted a field sobriety test. Officers then arrested the man for driving under the influence.
Theft/Lost Property
A man reported his electric scooter stolen from the Heritage Halls bike rack. Officers contacted the man and began an investigation.
An officer documented a report of a stolen bike trailer. The trailer's owner said it was taken from outside Building 21 at Wyview Park.
A student reported their e-bike stolen from a campus bike rack. Officers checked surveillance footage and saw a man and woman cut the bike lock and steal the bike. Officers filed the report and opened an investigation.
An officer discovered several department keys missing from the Benson Building. The officer filed a report and began an investigation.
Ongoing Investigations
A license plate reader alerted BYU Police of a car with a stolen license plate. Officers located the car and found the registered owner with it. Officers discovered no one had told the owner to replace the rear license plate after he reported his front license plate as stolen. Officers advised the owner to order new license plates.
BYU’s distribution service was hacked. The hackers changed bank account information and redirected 22 payments over three months. An investigation is underway.
