Police Beat: Oct. 1-10

Accident
An individual drove into the curb of the roundabout near the Abraham O. Smoot (ASB) building while being distracted by her cell phone. The collision caused only moderate damage to the vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Animal Problem
An officer responded to the Erza Taft Benson Building (BNSN) and found a visibly injured, motionless deer. After contact with the Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR), it was decided to leave the deer undisturbed for the time being to monitor if its condition improved.

Citizen Contact
A security officer reported multiple individuals climbing on the exterior of the library building. An officer advised them that climbing on campus buildings is prohibited and recommended other climbing locations like Rock Canyon. The group cooperated and left the scene.

Information
A female student reported a concern that her ex-boyfriend was following her. Officers escorted her to her apartment while another officer spoke with the ex-boyfriend, who claimed he had not pursued her after she expressed a desire to end the relationship.

Medical
A female student suddenly passed out and was unconscious at the BYU Creamery, located near the Cannon Center. Upon arrival, medical personnel found the student conscious and able to communicate. No further medical intervention was required at that time.

A student dove for a pass and hit his head against another player's knee while playing flag football. Provo Fire and BYU EMS arrived on scene to assess and treat the student, who was suspected of having a concussion. The patient declined ambulance transport and was instead transported to Utah Valley Hospital by a friend.

Mental Subject
A female patient in the Brimhall Building reported accidentally taking a second dose of her medication prematurely, and expressed concern about potential overdose. The patient was treated on-site and later released by EMS personnel.

Suspicious
A law enforcement officer responded to the Thomas L. Martin Building (MARB) after reports of a suspicious package left in a classroom. The package contained 36 three-ring binders that were left by a local bishop after Sunday church services. The bishop was contacted and he arranged to return later that morning to retrieve the items.

A male individual was walking through the area east of the MTC and exhibiting signs of possible intoxication, including loud behavior and suspicious conduct. The individual was not located after multiple patrols by BYU Police.

Witnesses heard suspicious screaming and yelling from the north parking lot of the Music Building. The BYU Police observed two vehicles leaving the area; however, no license plates were obtained.

A male student entered a classroom in the JFSB and began making concerning comments during the lecture. The male is currently unidentified. The professor wanted the incident documented and asked questions about how to handle the incident if it occurs again.

Trespassing
A man attempted to gain access to the field during the BYU vs. West Virginia football game by using an old credential from a previous event to deceive staff. His attempt was unsuccessful. He was given a citation for trespassing and removed from the stadium.

Welfare Check
A student reported seeing a concerning suicidal post on Instagram made by a female. The author of the post resides in Orem. BYU Police requested that Orem Police follow up on the welfare check.
