Death investigation
A male student was found unresponsive in his dorm room at Heritage Halls. Life-saving efforts were initiated, but they were unsuccessful. The death of the student is currently being investigated.
Weapons offense
While driving on 450 East, an officer saw a couple on the street corner in distress. They told the officer that they were just shot by a BB gun.
A victim reported being shot with an airsoft gun while walking to her apartment on 900 North. Due to multiple reports of similar incidents, officers were able to track down the suspects.
Welfare check
A report was made about a friend suffering from an emotional and mental crisis and had possibly injured themselves. Officers responded and transported the subject to the emergency room for further treatment and evaluation.
A report was made of a person wearing a blue beanie and coat with a unicorn backpack and pacifier in their mouth sitting by a tree. Officers searched the south campus area for the person but they could not be found.
A student was brought to University Counseling and Psychological Services for help after a teacher’s assistant received an email from them that expressed suicidal ideations.
Gas smell
Reports of a gas smell were made at West Campus. It was determined that the smell was due to a gas valve that had been replaced a few hours prior.
Citizen contact
A woman lost her phone but located it in the office of the Building Operations supervisor in the Talmage Building. An officer unlocked the door for her and ownership was verified via her iCloud account.
A report was made of a possibly transient female sleeping in the stairwell of the Music Building. Upon being located, the woman refused to provide identification, but quickly packed her belongings and left.
A report was made after an employee discovered an email sent to co-workers that defamed their character.
Medical
A patient was experiencing ongoing seizures on the north side of the J. Reuben Clark Building. They were transported to the hospital for further care.
A female fainted in the Tanner Building. She was assessed and released to be driven home by friends.
An adult female fainted at the Missionary Training Center. She was able to receive treatment at the MTC.
A student in the Clyde Building was reported to be feeling sick and was evaluated to likely have a cold or infection. An officer transported them to the Student Health Center.
A dancer in the Wilkinson Student Center Ballroom was struck in the head. He was evaluated by EMTs and was transported to the hospital by his mother.
Information
A statue in front of the Administration Building was reported to have red tape placed on it. University grounds personnel removed the tape.
A professor reported their student for aggressive behavior. The student had not participated in a group presentation, and when the professor asked about it, the student punched the wall in frustration.
Agency assist
An officer was dispatched to the MTC after a northbound vehicle on 900 East hit ice and veered off the roadway, striking a metal fence near 900 East Stadium Way. Since the crash occurred on 900 East, the Provo Police responded to investigate the accident. A BYU officer assisted with traffic control and subsequently cleared the scene.
Abandoned 911
An abandoned 911 call took place in the Harold B. Lee Library. An officer conducted a foot patrol through the library and determined that there was no emergency.
Suspicious
A mother reported a suspicious male near the Heritage Halls volleyball courts. The case was documented for future reference if needed.
A suspicious male, dressed in a suit, was reported to be looking into vehicles at the parking lot of the Tanner Building. He was identified as a limousine driver waiting for his passenger. Eventually the passenger came out of the Tanner Building and no further action was taken.
Nuisance
Officers escorted the football team’s semitruck and buses to the Administration Building, after 4,000 to 6,000 fans crowded Lot 37 while awaiting the team’s arrival after a recent away game.
Stalking
After a few dates, a male began sending a female several pictures from outside her place of residence. The female felt uncomfortable and reported him to University police, where they advised her to tell him to end all contact. The BYU police victim advocate will also reach out to her.
