Police Beat: May 12-18

Vandalism
A woman reported that her vehicle was hit with white paintballs. There were about 25 impacts, but no serious damage was detected. The case is currently under investigation.

Suspicious
A report came in of a white male, college-aged, running out of the Crabtree Building while yelling and waving an oversized white flag. Officers responded, but the building was found unoccupied.

A student reported a young adult male who sat at her table at the Life Science Building and began to question her. She moved to a different floor and later saw the man walk past again. Police are reviewing the security footage to identify him.

A suspicious man was reported sitting outside the Richards Building and watching passersby. The report stated he also whistled at a passing woman. Police found no criminal activity.

Welfare Check
A male was reported walking around Miller Park and talking to himself. Officers spoke with him, and he said he was looking for his friend, Todd. He was asked to leave campus and complied. This is not the first time he’s been reported on campus.

Citizen Contact
A man reportedly called the University Press Building and was verbally aggressive, saying several church authorities were going to hell. No threats were made, and the caller was blocked immediately after. Attempts to contact him were unsuccessful.

An employee at the Culinary Support Center reported that a man approached her, claiming he’d lost his phone nearby while jogging the previous night. She pointed out a phone on the ground near him, and then he engaged in a brief conversation and said she was beautiful before leaving. Feeling uncomfortable and believing the story was staged, she contacted police to review security footage.

Theft
A bicycle was reported stolen from the Riviera. The victim returned to where they’d left their bike to find their lock cut and the bike gone. It was not located, despite a thorough search.

An Apple TV device was reported stolen from the University Parkway Center. Surveillance footage did not reveal a suspect.

Information
Police received a call about a civil stalking injunction violation. Officers searched the RB but did not find the person involved. The complainant was escorted to their vehicle, and the search remains underway.

Traffic
A hit-and-run was reported at the RB parking lot. However, officers didn’t find any damage on the victim’s vehicle that could be attributed to a recent collision. Nonetheless, officers are reviewing security footage.

A vehicle leaving a parking space in Lot 16 collided with another. The situation has been resolved and filed as a non-reportable incident.

After a weight training session, a complainant returned to their vehicle in Lot 39 to find damage to the rear bumper. No information was left by the perpetrator, and police are currently reviewing security camera footage.

Fire
A fire alarm was pulled at the Missionary Training Center, but staff later canceled it.

A gas smell was reported at Heritage Halls Building 9. Responding officers did not detect gas.

Medical
Officers responded to a medical call at Miller Park but didn’t find a patient at the scene. There was an event in progress and the area was crowded.

An individual at the LSB suffered dizziness and vision problems. Authorities determined she had low blood sugar and placed her in a family member's care.

An intramural player was injured at the RB and received treatment from BYU EMS and an officer. The player was later taken to the hospital.

A school bus driver near the Museum of Paleontology felt faint and pulled over. Provo EMS assisted the driver until they recovered.

A woman had a seizure in the Brimhall Building and fell to the floor. Provo Paramedics quickly arrived at the scene and transported her to Utah Valley Hospital at her request.

Unsecure Gate
Sunroc Construction reported that several vehicles were illegally entering a construction site leading to Temple View Drive. Officers have since secured the gate.
