The new BYU Creamery is anticipated to open in October.
The current seventy-year-old building could no longer keep up with demands and was in need of an upgrade, Joe Tiapson, retail operations and marketing director for BYU Dining Services, said.
"It's small,” Tiapson said. “It doesn't have the utility and the technology and the structure that we need in order to keep up with today's students."
Tiapson said the new building will have 70% more retail space and a new pavilion equipped with heaters and misters for year-round comfort.
"All of that will lead to a much better customer experience, and serving more sweet memories than ever," Tiapson said.
Finley Boyer, a student at BYU, said the new building will be his go-to shopping spot.
"I assumed it was just going to be another small one because this is like, the biggest one,” Boyer said. “But no, it's bigger. That is something. I’ll probably do my primary shopping there from now on."
Sam Cooper, a first-time Creamery customer, said that he looks forward to the renovations.
"I'm excited to see the new building,” Cooper said. "Honestly, if it's bigger and (has) those heaters outside, that would be great for me."
