Dr. Sandra Hope of the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Biology and Brian Jensen of the Department of Mechanical Engineering are working to stop a mosquito’s ability to carry malaria.

The project, a collaboration with the University of Utah, uses an edited gene that can be inserted into the bugs’ DNA, disabling its ability to spread malaria. The professors and their students hope to use this technique to stop the spread of other deadly viruses.
