Hundreds of BYU Education Week attendees gathered at the BYU Marriott Center to hear Young Men General President Steven J. Lund and Young Woman General President Emily Belle Freeman speak on how youth and individuals can use the latest edition of the “For the Strength of Youth” guide to accept Christ's help and guidance throughout their life.
Personal stories and lessons shaped President Lund and President Freeman’s devotional message, testifying of the guide’s inspired truths, invitations and promised blessings.
“I think one thing that really stuck out to me was when they were talking about the words, … that every word had been prayed over, even down to every period,” BYU Education Week attendee Ashley Shupe said.
President Lund and President Freeman taught leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints purposefully crafted every piece of the guide, wanting readers to study and apply its teachings intentionally.
“That makes me want to go back and really go through it with a fine tooth comb and kind of dissect the words maybe a little bit better,” Shupe said.
BYU alum Katie Heist attended the devotional to learn how to best help her kids understand the guide’s principles and how they apply to them.
“I think one of my biggest takeaways was that I need to study … the guide more and understand it so that I can teach it better to my own children and help them understand it,” Heist said.
President Lund and President Freeman concluded their remarks promising listeners greater joy and direction as they seek to learn and abide by the guide’s teachings.
Other members of the Young Men and Young Women general presidencies will host similar sessions at the BYU Marriott Center from Aug. 22-23 at 11:10 a.m. Registration for those and other sessions is open until the end of BYU Education Week.
