With graduation season mere months away, career fairs hosted at Brigham Young University are helping students prepare for the future.
"The biggest and most important thing, especially in this industry, is your network," Derek Jack, career director for the College of Fine Arts and Communications, said. "You have to start talking to people."
BYU regularly holds career fairs for students. Some fairs focus on specific majors, while others are open to all students.
"I think it's so amazing that BYU makes all of these different businesses (and) different things aware and available to us," Miriam Ziedner, a BYU advertising student, said. "They bring them to us so we are able to be exposed.”
Companies come together to connect with prospective students eager to apply their newly developed skills in the workforce.
Students need to be intentional with their education and seek out every opportunity to develop their skills, Jack said.
"Preparing yourself now, being intentional about your education — if you can, find an internship," Jack said.
Students should build up their resumes and have backup plans for when things don't work out, Jack said. He recommended that students attend upcoming career fairs to make valuable connections.
