Environmental design course brings BYU students outdoors to paint and learn
BYU illustration students in the environmental design course are learning to see and interpret the world around them through on-site painting and observation.
Led by professor Justin Kunz in the Department of Design, the class takes students outdoors to study lighting, color and composition as they practice plein air painting in the mountains and valleys of Utah. The course focuses on how setting shapes storytelling, helping students build confidence in creating mood and meaning through environmental painting.
