3D printers and state of the art lasercutting machines are some of the things found inside the Toolbox, part of the BYU McKay School of Education Commons.
“Currently, we are laser cutting keychains,” Andrew Gardner, a Toolbox teaching assistant, said.
He works at the Toolbox where he helps people complete their projects. He helped students make keychains for the activity of the week.
During the activity, attendees went in and asked for the keychain design of their choice. They also could come in with their design ready.
Attendees' designs were laser-etched into a wooden sheet on the glowforge machine. Eventgoers walked away with their own custom keychains.
“We did engraved keychains and so we went with school spirit because it is Y Friday,” Martha Cox, a Toolbox attendee, said.
The Toolbox brought many people to make their keychains, suited to their own personal styles.
“People have been very creative and funny in their keychain designs,” Rodrigo Gutierrez, the Toolbox videographer, said.
Students can also use the toolbox for other projects besides weekly activities. It is free to use for students.
“I love when people come with some kind of idea of what they want and we together build what they want to build,” Gutierrez said.
