BYU Women's Services and Resources offers support to students

How to get support from the Women's Services and Resources Office on campus

Many women at Brigham Young University may be unaware of the resources available to them. Offices such as Women's Services and Resources are dedicated to providing support.

Women's Services and Resources is all about creating a safe space for everyone. Their mission is to educate, connect, and empower students to create a Christ-centered life.

Whitney Kingsolver is the office manager of Women's Services and Resources.

"I see every day the impact that it makes for everyone on campus, not just women," Kingsolver said. "Lots of men benefit from our resources as well."

The BYU Women's Services and Resource office offers a wide variety of support, including a body image support group, yoga on Saturdays and essentials like free feminine hygiene products and emergency diapers.

It also provides support for sexual assault survivors and those struggling with eating disorders.

Logann Hillam, the office Nutrition and Wellness Specialist, said that the office provides a safe space,

"The work environment is really fun," Hillam said. "Our directors are great. They show a lot of interest in, like, how we're doing in our personal lives."

Kingsolver says Women's Services is a separate entity from campus, which means the office directors are confidential reporters. This gives students the opportunity to speak out.

"If people need, like, a little pick me up. They can come in, grab some candy. They can also sit in our office," Alena Boud, Women's Services Graphic Designer, said

The office isn't just about support. It's also about celebrating women, especially during Women's History month.

For employees like Hillam and Boud, helping women is more than a job. It's a passion.

"If they're not ready to talk to one of our directors, or they just need to talk to a friend or something, those are good resources."

The goal of women's services is to provide a physically and emotionally safe space where students can express their feelings.

Students can find all the women's services events and campaigns on their official website at wsr.byu.edu.
