BYU nursing students wrote Valentine's Day cards for patients at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City on Feb. 12 and 13.
“Our goal was to reach 150 valentines, and I think we're going to surpass it,” Elle Harris, a member of the Nursing School Public Relations team, said.
Tatum Jones is a graphic designer for the Nursing School PR team. Her grandmother is a patient at the Huntsman Cancer Institute, she said.
“It is a little bit personal to know how much these can make a difference, just these little sweet things,” Jones said.
Hospitalization can be isolating, Jones said. The nursing students worked to do what they could to make the patients' stays a little better.
“Chemo takes a lot out of you," Jones said. "(My grandma) was having such a hard time that having these personal touches really brightened her day."
Jones made a Valentine that said, "Are you an extra-terrestrial? Because you're out of this world!"
“It’s hard; it’s really, really hard, it’s exhausting — but puns are great,” Jones said.
