Abigail Hooper and Jayne Jonas were announced as the new BYUSA president and executive vice president for the 2026-27 school year on Feb. 26.
Voting started at 6 a.m. and ended at 6 p.m. The results were announced at 7 p.m. through the BYUSA Instagram page.
Abigail Hooper and Jayne Jonas won with 51.8% of the vote and over 6,500 student votes.
Their next step is organizing their cabinet, and they're eager to get to know the students who apply.
“We have such a village around us that the amount of people ... stepped up to want to help us and support us,” Jonas shared.
Hooper and Jonas said regardless of the results, they both felt so much gratitude and support throughout the election. They credit their support system for their win.
“We're so excited to serve, but in order to serve others, we had to be served first by our friends and family,” Hooper said.
The new presidency's theme is “Be the One,” encouraging students to “include, invite and love.”
As they serve in the 2026-27 school year, these two are striving to help students.
"Helping students know they belong at Brigham Young University because of one essential truth — their divine worth and identity as children of God,” Hooper and Jonas said on their victory social media post.
Jonas said she and Hooper are going to try their best to have a great year, but everyone else can join them too.
"We can all try and build this campus culture we want together, and you can be the one to do that," Jonas said.
