Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve and his wife, Sister Harriet Uchtdorf, spoke at a Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults on Sunday, Feb. 2.
The devotional was held at Brigham Young University's Marriott Center. Thousands of people were in attendance, with more watching through a live-streamed broadcast.
Elder Uchtdorf spoke about faith, perseverance and God’s love, urging students to trust in divine guidance.
"If you have unanswered questions, I bear you my certain witness that your Heavenly Father hears you, he knows you and he will never give up on you," Elder Uchtdorf said.
Many attendees said they felt uplifted and inspired by the couple’s words.
“I think, obviously, one of the highlights for everyone about the devotional was just seeing the relationship between Elder and Sister Uchtdorf,” Lauren Kirton, a global and social impact student, said.
Sister Uchtdorf made a humorous comment about speaking alongside her husband and noted they had recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary.
"It is so good to be with you today. I also like that I am here with my favorite apostle. I know I shouldn’t have favorites, but in my case, it seems okay," she said.
Abram Shipley, a BYU freshman, said the devotional helped him shift his perspective on personal worries.
"The whole time I was just thinking about the things that I may be worrying about in life that I don’t need to be worrying about—that God already has so many blessings in store," he said.
Jonathan Tirado, a member of the choir that performed at the devotional, said the messages resonated deeply amid personal and global challenges.
"Through these difficult times we’re passing through, the Lord will always help us and will be our strength and our foundation," Tirado said.
Elder Uchtdorf concluded his remarks by encouraging young adults to move forward with confidence in their faith.
"God has prepared eternal blessings beyond your and my imagination," he said.
Elder Uchtdorf is scheduled to return to BYU in-person on April 15 to speak to given a devotional address in the Marriott Center.
