Creators, an entrepreneurial club at BYU, is providing students interested in entrepreneurship with access to helpful resources.

Creators is the official club of the Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology. The club helps students "learn creative problem-solving and bring ideas to life with students from various majors all over campus," the club website states.

Creators is open to all BYU students, not just those majoring in a related field.

"Honestly, some of my best friends I met through that club, and they weren't even in the business school. They were in other majors," said Adela Montoya, Vice President of Creators.

Creators is a great place for anyone who might be unsure of what they want to do and offers interaction with a diverse community, Montoya said.

Creators hosts several events, most of which take place on Fridays at The Slab. The Slab recently relocated from the Tanner Building to its own building located on campus across from the duck pond at 735N 500E.

A shuttle that takes students from the Tanner Building to The Slab recently began operation.

According to the Creators' Instagram page, Friday events range from idea jams to club meetings and other entrepreneurial activities.

"We have regular events, such as Idea Jam Sessions, to encourage students to look for opportunities or problems that they can solve and then come up (with) creative and innovative solutions to those pain points." Mike Hendron, head of the Rollins Center, said.

It was at one of their Friday Idea Jams that Montoya found her love for the club. She was not sure what she wanted to major in when she attended one of the club's Idea Jams, she said. Attendees identified problems that they had seen in everyday life and created solutions as a club.

"I just kept on coming and coming, and I just kept on falling in love with it more," Montoya said.

Creators also partner with other clubs to host events, including the Startup Panel they hosted with the Marketing Association where club members learned more about marketing as an emperor. Creators also hosted a joint Idea Jam with the Experience Design Society where participants solved an experience-focused issue.

Montoya also explained that Creators can help funnel students who are very interested in entrepreneurship into the Rollins Center's other programs, such as Seed and Sandbox. Montoya is currently part of the Sandbox program where students work in small teams to build and launch a software tech business from scratch, according to the Sandbox webpage.

"Our goal is for Creators to be an effective ambassador organization in getting the word out about the Rollins Center offerings and pathways to entrepreneurship," Hendron said.

Creators costs $20 to join. In addition to club events, students have access to The Slab and its free soda bar. Other club perks include mentorship from a network of experienced entrepreneurs and design studios located at The Slab.
