Representing less than one percent of the student body, about 40 to 50 Muslim students attend BYU.

The original BYU Creamery, located on Ninth East in Provo, closed on Dec. 2 after serving millions of happy customers for 25 years.

“By study and by faith” is a phrase students hear often at BYU. For many freshmen, that idea begins to take shape in a class called BYU Foundations for Student Success, or UNIV 101.

In May, I traveled to England to interview, film and photograph for a documentary and articles marking Karl G. Maeser and Brigham Young University’s 150th anniversary celebration. During the trip, our group visited numerous historical sites, including the Beatles statues in Liverpool, Alnwick Castle and iconic London landmarks such as Big Ben and Westminster Abbey.

One Sunday some time ago, I was browsing through Spotify playlists — gospel and blues from the mid-20th century, mostly. At times I find myself wishing for a little more variety in the religious musical tradition I’ve grown up in. Perhaps it is simply the familiarity of the hymns that have made me take them for granted.

There seemed to be no definite answer. It was more than likely to have happened, but the proof I was looking for was just something I wasn't going to find. I had accepted that. I had come to terms with the idea that this piece was going to be more about my journey than the destination. Then I got the email. “Ha! I just found the answer.”
