BYU women's volleyball took down Baylor in a 3-0 sweep at the Smith Fieldhouse Saturday, but the on-court success wasn't the only thing fans were cheering about.
During a timeout, BYU junior Lance Peterson saw an opportunity and took it. As Peterson and his girlfriend, Maile Conner, appeared on the video board, signs rose up behind them reading, 'will you marry me?'
Although there was no sound of their interaction, it was pretty obvious that Conner said yes.
The engaged couple have been dating since their sophomore year of high school, staying together while Peterson served his mission. After reuniting this summer, he knew he wanted to propose to Conner this fall.
This proposal might seem random, but Peterson knew he had to catch Conner by surprise. 'I totally would have known something was up if he did it any differently,' Conner said afterward.
Peterson's roommate was able to help them out by being the cameraman to hook them up with the video board shot.
'Once I found out my roommate could get us up on the screen, I knew thats what I had to do,' Peterson said. 'I asked my family to hold up the signs that I made and it worked out.'
The happy couple left even happier with a new ring and another win for the cougars. As BYU keeps crushing it in volleyball, their games are confirmed proposal-worthy.
