The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint's office building plaza at Temple Square is set to be completed by the end of the year. The plaza's renovations include waterproofing the concrete surface, adding Styrofoam blocks under the landscaped areas, new landscaping features and hanging flags from nations across the world.
This year is the third year of the Salt Lake City Temple renovation. A system of cranes is used to assist in the renovation.
'It's not about just going up there and running a crane, it's about the experience of running the crane on a project of this magnitude and its historical value,' crane operator Treini Smith said.
The cranes help replace repaired temple stones to their original locations. Workers are also pouring concrete and building steel reinforcements for a new three-floor addition on the north side of the building.
The construction of the temple and surrounding areas is planned to be completed in 2025.
