The Daily Universe is hosting a daily Christmas giveaway for seven consecutive school days. The giveaway started on Monday, Nov. 29, and extends to Dec. 6.

Students have the opportunity to win up to six daily prizes and a chance to win one of four grand prizes on Tuesday, Dec. 7.

Students have to subscribe to The Daily Universe newsletter and click on a link that is sent out each day. From there, students are taken to a Google form where all they have to do is enter their information.

Ellen Hernandez, The Daily Universe Business Operations Manager, is excited about the event and says that it is a promotion for The Daily Universe to get people to subscribe to their newsletter.

“This is how we build our audience. We want to connect more with everyone on campus. We want people to know who we are and know that this is the place to turn for campus information,' Hernandez said. 'When we started we were only at 600 subscribers and now we are at 7000. We've worked really hard with the marketing department to get here.'

Malachi Allred, a junior in the marketing program, helps with the marketing analytics side of things. This includes paying attention to how well different marketing campaigns are doing and how many people are viewing content from The Daily Universe.

“The Daily Universe just has great content in general. The information and content that they produce (for) the students and alumni are quality,' Allred said.

Angie Byambasuren, another marketing student, has had a hand in helping with the Christmas giveaway event. Her primary job is to do advertisements and promotions as well as look for different venues and locations where she could put posters or digital signs.

On the day of the event, she will be doing additional advertising on social media. Byambasuren enjoys and appreciates The Daily Universe and hopes more people can continue to subscribe to its weekly newsletter.

“I think that the content is full of value and everyone should be more involved and familiar with what is going on in the area. The Daily Universe gives a sense of unity among the students, plus we have memes on there,' Byambasuren said.

This is not the first event of its kind from The Daily Universe. Past giveaways have drawn hundreds of students to the Wilkinson Student Center terrace in past years, with food, hot chocolate and a chance to win some unexpected Christmas prizes.

Grand prize winners do not have to be present, but those who win other prizes will have to claim their item during the event.
