A falling boulder crushed a Brigham Young University senior over the weekend, killing him.

24-year-old Jacob West of Cedar Hills, Utah, was hunting for topaz with his sister at Topaz Mountain in Juab County when a boulder dislodged from the mountainside and rolled over him.

West’s sister called for help, but it took two hours for first responders to get to the scene, and West died.

West was a newlywed of a year and a half and was just two months away from graduating with his degree in computer science.

The West family says he gave his whole heart and all of his energy to every aspect of his life.

His funeral will be held in Cedar Hills on Saturday.
