The latest COVID-19 vaccination update from BYU shows 76.55% of campus is fully vaccinated, but how does that compare to other Utah universities and Church Educational System schools?

As far as CES schools go, BYU sits right in the middle. BYU–Hawaii leads the pack with 98% of its faculty, students and staff being vaccinated as of Sept. 21. BYU–Hawaii issued a vaccine requirement for the Fall 2021 semester in June of this year.

BYU-Idaho has not posted its vaccination numbers, but in a video address to the campus, President Henry J. Eyring reported that roughly 50% of the BYU-Idaho student body had been vaccinated as of Aug. 4.

BYU numbers are on par with other Utah universities. The latest numbers for the University of Utah show that 78% of students and 84% of employees have been fully vaccinated as of Oct. 5. Utah Valley University sits a little lower, with 66% of its students fully vaccinated and 73% partially vaccinated, according to Robyn Ebmeyer, director of emergency management and safety.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data reveals that as of Oct. 9, 187.2 million people in the United States had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The CDC reports that the state of Utah is at 53.2% for fully vaccinated people.

According to The New York Times, colleges and universities have had a large impact on COVID-19. As of May 26, 260,000 cases had stemmed from college and universities since Jan. 1.

Multiple Utah universities have decided to implement COVID-19 vaccine requirements in the future. Utah Valley University and Utah State University will be requiring vaccines for the Spring 2022 semester, and the University of Utah currently requires students to be vaccinated.

BYU does not have a COVID-19 vaccine requirement, but strongly encourages students, faculty and staff to get vaccinated.
