On Wednesday journalists were allowed inside the last remaining temporary migrant detention facility in Homestead, Fla. The facility, which houses over 1,500 teens, is under fire from lawmakers and advocacy groups who claim it is in violation of state child welfare laws.

Award-winning journalist Maria Ressa was freed on bail Thursday, Feb. 14 after being arrested on libel charges for openly criticizing Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte. While Duterte claims the arrest was simply a response to a criminal complaint, Ressa recognizes the event as “death by a thousand cuts” to democracy.

Pompeo says ‘confronting Iran’ key to Mideast peace

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told world leaders at a conference in Warsaw the road to peace in the Middle East lies in confronting the region’s top threat: Iran. The conference was denounced by Iran as an effort to demonize their country.

Fox Searchlight released a trailer for the movie “Tolkien” on Tuesday, Feb. 12. The movie is set to come out in May 2019. It will explore the early life of author J. R. R. Tolkien and the effect it had on his Middle-Earth novels.
