It’s officially ski season here in Utah. Many skiers and snowboarders are flocking to get to the good snow at all the resorts that have opened.

Alta opened on November 23 and skiers have been loving the fresh snow. Alta’s director of communications, Andria Huskinson, said, “We’ve had a lot of snow. We had 9 inches overnight. We had some fresh snow and everyone was super excited to ski.”

The mountain was popular with skiers on opening day on November 23. “It’s just been a fun day and everyone is excited to be back skiing and we’re glad it’s wintertime,” exclaimed Huskinson.

People old and young can enjoy the “best snow on earth” that Utah has to offer. Alta saw young children and veterans alike hit the slopes.

Burke Weir, a local who has skied Utah for more than 40 years, looks forward all summer for his favorite time of year. For him, he feels fortunate to enjoy Utah snow. “I am lucky enough to get to ski everyday,” said Weir.

Utah has some of the snowiest canyons in the nation and Alta averages about 550 inches of snow each year. Ski season usually lasts from December to March with some spring skiing in April. Every five days about a foot of snow falls.

High schooler, Rannon Byangton, mentioned how he enjoyed the first snow fall of the year. “The snow has been good! A little tracked out, but that’s to be expected,” said Byangton.

It’s projected to be a good ski season this year and many people are looking forward to all the snow that will be coming. For more information on opening dates, weather, and other useful information for skiers and snowboarders, check out skiutah.com.
