Brigham Young University will move to a single, annual commencement ceremony starting April 2019, according to an announcement made by University Communications on Aug. 27.

The new commencement will begin Thursday morning rather than in the afternoon. Convocations will begin Thursday afternoon with additional convocation ceremonies on Friday.

The university cites increased quality as a primary reason for the change.

Students graduating in December 2018, April 2019, June 2018 and August 2019 are invited to participate in the April 2019 commencement ceremonies.

The announcement said further information will come in the upcoming months detailing the transition.
