First lady Melania Trump’s parents were sworn in as U.S. citizens Thursday. The Slovenian couple, Viktor and Amalija Knavs, took the citizenship oath in New York City.

Argentine Senate rejects legalizing elective abortion

Argentina’s Senate rejected a bill to legalize elective abortion. Lawmakers debated for 15 hours before voting 38-31 against the measure to allow abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy. Supporters peacefully waited outside Congress to watch the debate on large screens, but after the vote, protestors clashed with police, throwing firebombs and setting up flaming barricades. Police officers responded with tear gas.

Hazy California deals with smoky smell from distant blaze

Smoky air and a dull haze resulting from the recent California fires have lingered for weeks around California cities, leaving traces of ash throughout. The haze stretches from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range to Sacramento and hovers over the San Francisco Bay Area. Air quality experts say the air is considered dangerous for children, the elderly and people with asthma or other respiratory conditions. They suggest people limit their time outdoors.

Vice President Mike Pence announced that President Trump’s Space Force operation will begin in 2020. People on Twitter are discussing the news.
