Mormon missionaries in Turkey reassigned

Missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints volunteering in Turkey have been reassigned, according to an official statement from Daniel Woodruff, a spokesman for the church.

Twenty young men, four young women, and five senior couples will be reassigned to other European, Asian or North American areas. Four missionaries who are close to finishing their missionary service will return home.

Woodruff said the safety of the church's missionaries is very important and this reassignment comes 'due to a prolonged period of heightened political tensions in Turkey.'

The statement also said Turkey will remain a part of the Bulgaria/Central Eurasian Mission as per a church announcement in February.
