Students and mothers all over BYU campus are preparing to celebrate Mother’s Day this Sunday.
Some students, like Trevor Gibby, may not be able to travel home for the holiday, but that doesn't mean the occasion is any less significant.
I’d say it’s a God-given holiday that is really set apart for us to honor our mothers because they have raised us and done so much,” Gibby said. “It’s a good chance to show my appreciation for my mother and everything that she has done for us.”
For many mothers who work on campus, the occasion also marks a special day where many are able to relax and enjoy time with family.
“We have a family tradition that we’ve done in the past few years where my husband makes this big Sunday dinner and we invite his mom and all of his family and we just have fun celebrating my mother in law,” said BYU Reference Specialist Cindy Brightenburg. “The kids run around, everybody is just talking and eating and having fun. The best part is that my husband does the whole dinner.”
