Pepsi created a new limited edition version of its product to celebrate the 2015 version from 'Back to the Future: Part II.'
YouTube star and BYU celebrity Stuart Edge visits New York dressed as Marty McFly. Edge received a new version of Pepsi's bottle, as it first premiered in Back to the Future. (@stuartedge/Twitter)
The new product is a replica of the futuristic Pepsi bottle that Marty McFly drinks in the film's imagined 2015. The bottle was released on Oct. 21, 2015, the day McFly and Doc Brown visit in the movie.
'Pepsi fans asked and we heard them loud and clear,' said Lou Arbetter, the senior director of marketing for PepsiCo., in apress release. 'The 'Back to the Future' moment was as big a moment in pop culture history then as it is now, 30 years later. We are excited to be a part of this moment and to bring fans something only Pepsi could deliver — and there's no need to wait — the future is now!'
Great Scott! We got a can of #PepsiPerfect, and it didn't even cost $50! (@mtvmovies/Twitter)
Pepsi Perfect will cost $20.15, a reference to the current year and the year which the movie takes place. Pepsi Perfect has the same taste as the original, but the bottle is slightly larger, containing 16.9 oz. of Pepsi versus the 12 oz. of product in a normal can.
The product will be sold exclusively online and there will only be 6,500 bottles available. 'Back to the Future' fan Sean Hill said he wanted to buy Pepsi Perfect if he could get his hands on it. While Hill is not a regular Pepsi drinker, he is a big fan of the 'Back to the Future' trilogy. Hill said he would try Pepsi Perfect 'just for the sake of saying I had one and to see if there's any difference.'
Pepsi promoted the new item at New York Comic Con with 'Back to the Future' themed games and giveaways. The first 200 fans who came dressed as Marty McFly were given one of the new collectible bottles. Stuart Edge, a BYU student and YouTube star, was among those who dressed up.
