Sister Linda S. Reeves, Second Counselor in the General Relief Society Presidency, addressed the desire that saints have for rewards promised by God to come immediately, including rewards that one might not see here on earth.
Sister Linda S. Reeves, second counselor of the General Relief Society Presidency, speaks about virtue in the Women's Session of the 185th Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. (LDS.org)
Sister Reeves began her talk by addressing the joy of holding a baby and feeling of its new spirit.
'Our bodies are sacred gifts from Heavenly Father, they are personal temples,' said Sister Reeves. 'As we keep them pure, we can be worthy to help our Heavenly Father create bodies for his beloved spirit children.
Sister Reeves also quoted parts of the talk 'The Plan of Happiness' by President Boyd K. Packer, that drew attention to the power of procreation given to both women and men, and how it should be excised within the bounds of marriage.
'The power of procreation is not an incidental part of the plan, it is the plan,' said Sister Reeves, quoting President Packer.
The second councilor of the General Relief Society Presidency mentioned four tools that Satan uses to draw women away from Christ: seductive romance novels, TV soap operas, married women connecting to old boyfriends on social media, and pornography.
Sister Reeves counseled LDS women to protect their virtue, because it will allow them to access the spirit, She reminded women that participating in anything that is below Heavenly Father's standards will weaken them.
'We cannot play with Satan's fiery darts and not get burned,' Sister Reeves said.
Recognizing that no one is perfect, Sister Reeves talked about repentance, reminding sisters that the Atonement will allow no scars if one truly repents.
Though several women have told Sister Reeves that 'Heavenly Father's blessings are just too far away,' Sister Reeves promised, that if one centers their lives on those promised blessings and is aware of tender mercies, they will receive a reward that will lead them to say, ''was that all that was required?''
