BYU faculty member dies after battling brain cancer

BYU multicultural faculty member Lucky Fonoimoana died Thursday, Jan. 24, after battling brain cancer since September 2012, according to an email from the BYU Dean of Students office.

Fonoimoana, well known for his friendly demeanor, was well loved by students and faculty in the BYU community.

'I always felt like he was available for me when I needed him,' said Kelsey Captain, a senior elementary education major from Mesa, Ariz. 'He was always smiley and uplifting.'

Fonoimoana's family expressed gratitude to BYU for its support at this time.

Viewings will be held Jan. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Feb. 1 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Crescent Ridge LDS stake center at 1300 E. 11000 South in Sandy. Funeral services will be held in the same location on Feb. 1 at 11 a.m.
