Although BYU’s hockey team didn’t put a single point on the board in their 10-0 loss at home against Utah Dec. 14, their captain Brendan Hubbard still scored when his long-time girlfriend said yes to his mid-game proposal.

Hubbard had been planning the proposal for quite some time and it all came together Saturday night. After the second period his girlfriend was told to come out onto the ice to participate in a competition to shoot a puck into the net. After a few tries, she scored a goal and the crowd cheered, but that was nothing compared to what happened next.
With the help from the announcer, Hubbard came skating out onto the ice singing the song “I wanna grow old with you” from the movie The Wedding Singer. After a verse he got down on one knee and proposed to his ecstatic girlfriend. She said yes and the crowd exploded into applauses and cheers.
Unfortunately, it was the one highlight of the night for the Cougars. BYU was unable to get anything going on offense and the pressure from the skilled Utah team proved to be too much for BYU’s defense.
BYU won’t play again until 2014 and the Cougars hope the new start will help them finish the season strong.
