BYU divers head to Zone E championships

Four BYU divers qualified for the Zone E Diving Championships and a chance to swim in the NCAA nationals.

Nicholas Suder, Matt Hopper, Dayna Christensen and Raleigh Williams Taylor have all met the requirements to dive this weekend in hopes of making the NCAA swimming and diving meet.

The meet will take place Thursday at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. The competition will be tougher than what the Cougars faced in the regular season. Some of the athletes the Cougars are going up against qualified for the Olympics.

'I'm a little nervous because it's regionals and there's a lot of good girls from different schools,' Taylor said. 'It'll be a hard competition, but I'm really excited.'

All four divers competing this week started attending the BYU diving camp since they were 14, with the same coach they dive for now.

'I'm looking forward to being with the team and competing together,' Taylor said.

Events begin on Thursday and conclude Saturday evening.
