The BYU hockey team will travel to Salt Lake City on Friday to face rival University of Utah.

Head coach Jeremy Weiss is hopeful for a strong competition against the Utes.

'I expect our guys to come out hard,' Weiss said. 'We've played (Utah) close this year. Our biggest thing is consistency.'

Many BYU players are ill or recovering physically from the recent games against Weber State University.

'We've had a couple of guys sick this week,' Weiss said. 'If we can pull our roster together, we could have a good game.'

BYU hockey will also be holding a fundraising event for the team on Saturday. The current team will play against the team's former players. All proceeds from the game will go directly to the BYU hockey team.

'It's an expensive program to run,' Weiss said. 'We're self-funded.'

BYU hockey players must pay a $1,500 fee to play for the season. The team relies on those fees, alumni donors and the alumni game donations to cover all operating costs.

Friday's game starts at 8 p.m. at the Salt Lake City Sports Complex. Saturday's game starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Seven Peaks Ice Arena.
