Ending with a dive

BYU's diving team had its own chance to shine this weekend at a diving meet in Colorado Springs at the Air Force Academy Invitational. Usually the divers and swimmers travel and compete in meets together, but this weekend the divers had their own spotlight.

Sophomore Nic Suder qualified for finals in all three dives, taking home a sixth place finish on the three meter dive and a fourth place finish on the one meter dive.

'I am absolutely looking to compete in nationals,' Suder said. 'We had two other guys on the team make finals which is really great, and we scored a lot of points for BYU.'

The mentioned teammates that also made highlight worthy achievements were Matt Hopper and David Corless. Corless also qualified for finals in the three meter dive and finished seventh beneath Suder. Corless scored a 300.4, a personal best for him.

'All around the whole team performed really well and there were standouts in every event,' Corless said.

The divers are now preparing for their MPSF conference meet. Conference will take place Feb. 20–23 at Air Force in the USAFA Cadet Natatorium. Hopeful divers are looking to qualify for zones, and potentially nationals which follows the conference meet.
