SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The developer of popular video games including “Alvin and the Chipmunks” and “Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005” is serving a yearlong jail sentence in Utah for failing to pay more than 100 employees.
The Utah Attorney General’s Office says 57-year-old David M. Rushton owes $1.2 million in a rare criminal case for nonpayment of wages.
Rushton did business in the Salt Lake City area as Sensory Sweep Studio and Fooptube LLC. His companies developed games for hand-held devices, along with the Wii, PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360.
Rushton started his sentence Oct. 10 at the Salt Lake County jail.
State officials say Rushton has a long history of failing to pay wages, payroll taxes and 401(k) contributions to employees.
This is his second time in jail. In 2010, Rushton was sentenced to six months for tax fraud and racketeering.
