Upcoming gubernatorial debate to be televised

PROVO — A gubernatorial debate between incumbent Gov. Gary Herbert and his democratic challenger will be televised on multiple local stations on Oct. 11.

The debate will be the second of four between Herbert and Democrat Peter Cooke and the only one televised. The broadcast, taking place at 9 p.m. on Oct. 11, will be an hour long with standard debate format of timed responses and rebuttals.

Topics expected to be discussed include the economy, education and healthcare.

A citizen audience of about 20 people sit in the studio during the debate and provide most of the questions. Those not in attendance will be able to submit questions via the VoteUtah facebook page. The debate will be moderated by Ken Verdoia, KUED Director of Production.

A number of television stations will be simulcasting the debate that Thursday night throughout Utah including KUED – Channel 7, KBYU – Channel 11, and KUEN – Channel 9.

Select public radio stations will also air the debate in varying time-slots.  KBYU-FM and Classical 89 will air the debate Thursday, Oct. 11 at 8 p.m.; KXDS-St. George Thursday at 9 p.m.; Utah Public Radio Thursday at 9 p.m. with a repeat Friday during Access Utah from 9-10 a.m; KCPW-Salt Lake City Thursday at 6 p.m.

Excerpts will be aired on KUER and KPCW-Park City during news and public affairs programming.
