A nation-wide massage franchise opened the doors to its first Utah spa in the Village at University Mall in Orem Tuesday morning.

Massage Envy now has 15 locations in Utah, but this new clinic is the first in the state to offer facials as well as massages.

The spa offers customization to each massage, allowing guests to choose between seven types including relaxation, deep muscle and a sports massage.

Craig Cannon, regional director and co-owner of this location said, “We customize every massage so that the guest is getting matched with the therapist and with the kind of massage that they particularly need.”

Facials make this location unique from others in Utah. Massage Envy spas offer four kinds of facials including one for acne and another for sensitive skin.

The company’s focus is healthy living, which helped them gain the support of the Utah County Chamber of Commerce.

Donna Milakovic, executive vice president of the chamber said, “One of the things we appreciate about Massage Envy is their emphasis on health and wellness. We really want to make our community a healthier workforce,” Milakovic said, “and there’s nothing better after a long day than to have a nice, relaxing massage and it does help with so many different preventable discomforts for people.”

In addition to emphasizing the health benefits of massage, Massage Envy seeks to provide these benefits at an affordable cost. Massage Envy has a membership program that helps to lower the cost to guests.

Members pay $49 per month, which allows them a one hour massage and a facial. For additional massages and facials members enjoy a discounted rate. Where non-members pay $65 for a one hour massage, members pay $39.

Brittney Thaxton, general manager of the new Orem location said, “What’s great about Massage Envy is every first time guest gets to come in at our member rate, so an hour massage is only $39.”

According to the company’s website, Massage Envy has over 790 locations and a membership is valid nationwide.

Cannon and Paul, his brother and business partner, now own four Massage Envy franchises up and down the Wasatch front. The Cannon brothers were initially attracted to the franchise because of the convenience, pricing, professionalism, and health benefits.

Cannon enjoys seeing his customers experience the benefits of massage, he said, “That’s the most rewarding thing to me in this whole thing, to watch people come out and say, ‘Wow, that really helped me; I needed that’ and that’s the difference-maker to me.”
