Jordanelle State Park to host water sport event

As temperatures continue to soar and summer term lags on, students can experience an evening on the water as Jordanelle State Park will host 'Fire on the Water' this Saturday at 7 p.m.

The event is in its fifth year with an average of over 5,000 people showing up each year. The festivities include live music, food from Dickey's BBQ, a hot dog eating contest, a stand-up paddle board relay on Jordanelle Reservoir and a lot of water sport vendors. The events will take place at the day use and adjacent Hailstone areas of Jordanelle State Park.

Marine Products, a water sport pro shop in Salt Lake City, is the title sponsor for the event. Randy Casper, Owner, is excited about how the event helps further the water sport scene in Utah.

'It's a giant event that unites all water sports enthusiasts, riders to riders and boaters to boaters,' Casper said. 'It's also a way for Marine Products to thank all of their customers past and future.'

Flyers are encouraging visitors to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the nighttime activities. A parade of lights of over 50 boats will start at 9 p.m. with the top three displays receiving gift cards from Marine Products. A firework show will also start at 10 p.m.

The park is just north of Heber and east of Park City, less than an hour drive from BYU. Admission to the event is $15 for every car-load of eight people. There will be shuttles to the event available from the campground, event center lot and the Lodge at Stillwater.

Directions to the park can be found on the Jordanelle State Park website. Also, Marine Products will put on a wake boarding competition next weekend Saturday July 21 at Pineview Reservoir.
