Starting Mother’s Day weekend, Utah artists will come together to showcase their inspirational art depicting teachings and miracles of Jesus Christ at Thanksgiving Point.

The artwork showcased in this exhibit, entitled “Follow His Light,” comes from artists who are members of The Inspirational Art Association, or IAA. This association prides itself in presenting inspirational content that uplifts the soul and brings the viewer closer to Jesus Christ.

Approximately 70 pieces of art will be featured. According to a news release, artists presenting in the “Follow His Light” exhibit will include Simon Dewey, Del Parson, Liz Lemon Swindle and Scott Sumner, as well as other prominent LDS artists.

"Lord of Hosts," by Scott Sumner, is one of the paintings at the exhibit opening Mother’s Day weekend.

The exhibit, held inside the Garden Visitor’s Center at Thanksgiving Point, will accompany the art of Angela Johnson in a section titled “Light of the World.” This section will be the focal point of the entire exhibit and will be located in the gardens outside of the visitor’s center. Johnson’s artwork features large sculptures portraying scenes from the life of Jesus Christ.

Britnee Nguyen, communications manager for Thanksgiving Point, said she is enthusiastic about how the location of Johnson’s sculptures will enhance the experience.

“The gardens will help set the mood of beauty,” she said.

The 14 sculptures on display in the gardens will most likely be permanent fixtures, according to Karen Foster, the IAA’s co-chair for this Thanksgiving Point exhibit.

With “Follow His Light” opening during Mother’s Day weekend,  those organizing the exhibit hope there will be a positive reception to the subject matter. According to Nguyen, some pieces will relate to mothers and springtime.

“[It will be a] celebration of the life of Jesus Christ as well as the lives of mothers.”

Similarly, Foster believes the exhibit will be a perfect place to contemplate and prepare for honoring mothers.

“Mothers are Christ’s hands on earth, and we felt like this would be a wonderful opportunity to inspire the people who come for Mother’s Day with a beautiful atmosphere.”

In honor of this holiday, special activities will be available to patrons of the exhibit including art workshops, an outdoor market and artists painting in the gardens.

The “Follow His Light” exhibit will be open from May 11 through June 16.
