Due to regular maintenance, Provo City Power cut electricity to over 350 residents living south of campus between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. today.
Areas affected are between 200 and 600 East and 400 and 500 North.
According to Systems Operations Manager Tad Smallcomb, one of the telephone poles in that area will be replaced due to rot.
Smallcomb said while the policy is to plant all wires underground in new developments, there are many areas of Provo that predate this policy, thus remaining exposed.

Smallcomb said upcoming power outages include Provo’s Department of Motor Vehicles this Sunday.
“We try to do it when things are closed if we can,” he said.
In total, Provo City Power provides electricity to an estimated 35,000 residents and commercial buildings.
