Ordering Photos at Bookstore Becoming Easier

By Jesse Gunther

The BYU bookstore has launched a new photo Web site that allows patrons to order pictures online.

The new Web site, www.byuphotoshop.com, allows customers to not only order pictures online but pay for them as well, eliminating any waiting in line at cash registers.

'I hate waiting in long lines to pay for things,' said Monica McGhie, a BYU student from Taipei, Taiwan majoring in advertising.

Prints can be picked up from the Photoshop Desk, located across the aisle from the Religious Books Department in the southwest corner of the BYU Bookstore.

'The convenience of this process is great,' said Photo Department manager Jeff Howarth. 'Not only can customers order prints from home, work or wherever they may be, they will also be available to pick up their prints at the BYU Bookstore in just an hour.'

Online printing is not new to the BYU Bookstore. A link to online ordering was on the homepage of the BYU Bookstore Web site.

'Customers couldn''t find it,' Howarth said.

A new and separate website is meant to make online ordering easier and more accessible for shoppers, Howarth said.

Editing options are also available online. Customers can remove red eye, change color options and crop pictures.

'I get enjoyment out of fixing a picture and making it look better,' said Kathryn Oakes, a 21-year-old humanities major from Ridgefield, Conn.

Pictures ordered online can be printed in two sizes, 4x6 and 5x7, costing 19 cents and $1.49 each respectively.

BYU Bookstore employees are attempting to increase online options in the near future.

'We are looking to add 8x10 options in the future,' Howarth said.

The Photo Desk offers many options in store.

'We do offer more options in the store than online,' said Photoshop Desk employee Kittye Bowen, a 19-year-old from Georgia majoring in business. 'If you come in you can get passports and greeting cards.'

The Web site offers speedy service based on the volume of orders.

'We usually get prints out in an hour,' Bowen said. 'They are processed in the order we get them.'
