Basketball Player Transfers to USC

By Adam Olsen

Cougar basketball player Jordan Cameron is saying farewell to both BYU and basketball, and has accepted a scholarship to play football for USC in the fall.

BYU basketball coach Dave Rose said in a news release that the Cougars support their Trojan-bound teammate.

'Jordan has informed me that he has decided to play football and will enroll at USC this fall,' Rose said. 'We appreciate Jordan''s contributions as a member of our championship team this past season. He is a great teammate and talented athlete. We wish him the very best as he makes this transition from basketball to football.'

USC football coach Pete Carroll reportedly offered the 6-foot-5, 220-pound Cameron a scholarship after an unofficial visit to USC this spring, according to an article on Rivals.com. He will most likely redshirt this coming year, and will lose one year of eligibility for transferring to another division I school.

Cameron, who would have been a redshirt freshman swingman for the 2007-2008 basketball season, will reportedly play tight end for the Trojans.

Cameron will be right at home at USC. A native of Southern California by way of Newbury Park, Cameron attended nearby Newbury Park High School where he played basketball, football and volleyball, and was an all-league wide receiver.

His sister, Brynn, also happens to play for the Trojan women''s basketball team.

Currently, Cameron''s younger brother, Colby, is a quarterback at Newbury High. According to Scout.com, Colby Cameron is receiving attention from BYU, USC, UCLA and California. Whether big brother''s move to USC will have any effect on Colby''s decision remains to be seen.

According to BYU''s official athletic site, USC initially recruited Cameron to play for the Trojan basketball team before he eventually committed to the Cougars. One year later, it seems USC football succeeded where the basketball team failed.
