A new BYUSA club wants to share their comedic talents with other students at a comedy show this weekend.

Comedy group Humor U performed at amateur venues off campus during the summer, but decided to form a club and hold their shows at BYU to accommodate larger audiences, said Tanner Kay, Humor U president.

“We”re a young club, but we”ve grown quickly,” he said.

The group is very different from other local comedy troupes, like Divine Comedy, Brand X or Laugh Out Loud, Kay said. These groups do improv or sketch comedy, but Humor U does original stand-up.

Members of Humor U are BYU students with a common interest in sharing laughter and jokes with others.

Andrea Erickson, Humor U vice president, said she started doing stand-up comedy about 3 years ago and has enjoyed it ever since.

“I love to make people laugh,” she said. “I like to find humor in everyday situations.”

Erickson said their group is important because they perform clean comedy.

“It”s unfortunate that we [often] can”t be entertained without being offended in some way,” she said. “We want to provide clean entertainment, and prove that it is possible to have.”

Kay said he hopes students will attend their show because it”s fun and entertaining.

“They”re going to love it — we”re really funny,” he said. “You can”t get better live stand-up comic entertainment for two bucks.”

No audition is required to join Humor U, so anyone can get involved. They are always looking for creative and talented people to participate, Kay said.
