The BYU softball team held two teams scoreless as they went 4-1 at the Texas A&M invitational.
The Cougars stunned the No. 14 host team Texas A&M with an 8-0 shut out Friday, March 3, 2006, after losing 3-2 in a close game to them Thursday evening, March 2.
The shutouts continued as the Cougars boasted a 20-0 defeat of Texas Southern Saturday, March 4.
The 20-run victory is the most lopsided win in school history.
The game against Texas Southern also made school history by ranking second in runs in a single game.
'This is as good as we''ve played all year,' head coach Gordon Eakin said.
'We are getting closer to where we want to be as a team.'
The Cougar''s pitching dominated as Summer Tobias pitched a no-hitter in the five-inning victory against Texas Southern.
Tobias came within one walk of a perfect game.
Tobias also recorded the last two outs of the seventh inning against College of Charleston Saturday to save the close game.
Daniella Urincho held the 14th ranked team in the nation, Texas A&M, to one-hit and a five-inning shut out.
Brooke Boyce-Humbert pitched her first complete game of the season, holding College of Charleston to just one run on five hits.
'Our pitching has really been the biggest contributor to our wins,' coach Vaughn Alvey said.
'The girls are focused and they are getting the job done.'
The Cougars began the tournament with a heartbreaking loss against Texas A&M Thursday evening. The Aggies came from behind and secured the 3-2 win late in the game.
Friday the team came back with a vengeance with the 8-0 shut out for the Aggies and a 2-1 victory against College of Charleston.
Saturday the Cougars continued their winning streak with the 20-0 shut out against Texas Southern.
The team also came out victorious in a close game against College of Charleston with a 5-4 win.
The four consecutive wins this weekend gives the BYU softball team its longest winning streak of the season.
The Cougars are coming off of a 2-2 tournament last weekend in Houston.
The Cougars overall record is 14-5, with losses against Texas State, Notre Dame, Houston, Wichita State and Texas A&M.
The softball team will take its four-game winning streak to California next weekend for the Stanford Classic starting Thursday, March 9, 2006.
