Accounting Program Places Second

By Contessa Hardman

The quality of BYU''s accounting program was recently honored by receiving second place in a national survey.

The most admired undergraduate, graduate and doctoral accounting programs in the country were ranked by a survey of accounting professors and department heads, according to a BYU news release.

With this criterion BYU''s graduate and undergraduate accounting programs were each ranked second. The list produced by 'Public Accounting Report' magazine includes the top 25 schools in the nation.

This increase in recognized quality allows those students in the accounting programs more acknowledgment from recruiters and more career opportunities, said Kevin Stocks, director of the School of Accountancy.

'It''s very competitive,' Stocks said. 'We graduate very good students, and they place extremely well all over the country.'

What this means for BYU is a greater interest and more support given from accounting firms. Stocks said this allows more people from the outside to give recognition, and it brings the program even more public exposure leading to greater opportunities.

According to the 'Public Accounting Report' magazine article, 'BYU had held the No. 3 spot in both the undergraduate and graduate rankings since 1995.' This would make it BYU''s 10th year in the top three rankings for its accounting programs.
